Beyond the Classroom: Introducing Our New Therapeutic Alternative Provision

For many children and young people, the traditional four walls of a classroom don’t always feel like a place of opportunity. Instead, they can become a source of overwhelming anxiety, sensory overload, and a "fog" of uncertainty.
When a child begins to struggle with school attendance (often referred to as EBSNA) or finds it impossible to regulate their emotions in a mainstream setting, it isn't a sign of failure—it’s a sign that they need a different kind of bridge.
At Self Assured Mind Therapy, we are thrilled to officially announce the launch of our Therapeutic Alternative Provision (TAP)—a service designed specifically to help young people re-engage with their potential through a unique blend of therapy, mentoring, and community-based activity.

Why a "Therapeutic" Provision?
Most educational settings focus on academic results first. Our provision flips the script. We believe that emotional safety must come before academic expectation.
Led by our founder, an experienced psychotherapeutic counsellor with over nine years of private practice and a background in Children’s Services, we understand the complex layers of trauma, neurodivergence, and SEMH needs. We don’t just look at the behavior; we look at the child behind it.
More Than Just Talk: The Power of Movement
One of the most exciting aspects of our new provision is our specialist team. We recognize that many young people—especially those who have felt "stuck" in a traditional chair-and-desk environment—thrive when they are moving.
Our team brings a strong sporting background and a passion for the outdoors. By integrating community-based activities and sports into our therapeutic work, we help young people build:
- Teamwork and Resilience: Learning to navigate challenges in a low-pressure, active environment.
- Self-Belief: Finding success and achievement through hands-on experiences.
- Regulation: Using movement as a tool to manage anxiety and sensory needs.
A Safe Space to Rediscover Potential
Whether a child is dealing with school-based trauma, social difficulties, or is currently out of education (EOTAS), our goal is to provide a nurturing "middle ground." We work closely with parents, schools, and Local Authorities to create a wrap-around support system that values the child’s pace and personality. We are moving away from the "one size fits all" approach to education and moving toward a model that celebrates individuality, connection, and growth.
How to Get Involved
If you are a parent, a school leader, or a commissioning body looking for a therapeutic, relationship-based alternative for a young person, we would love to talk.

Together, let’s help the next generation move from overwhelm to empowerment.
